About the Sessions

What is Counselling

What is
COUPLES THERAPY

Couple therapy offers a space for you and your partner to explore what is happening within your relationship in a safe and non-judgmental environment, ensuring that both parties are seen and heard.

Couples decide to enter therapy for many reasons, sometimes it may be that couples are struggling with communication, intimacy, family life etc. Couple therapy allows both parties to explore how they feel about one another, their love languages and how to communicate in a way that both parties feel both listened to and heard.

Couple therapy can also seek out discrepancies around how you ask for what you need/want, and how the relationship is making you feel.

We work with couples on shared goals so that we can bring you psychological theories and coping strategies which will help you communicate effectively with one another.

About the Sessons

ABOUT THE SESSIONS

The sessions will last 50 minutes with a five to ten-minute wrap at the end on how the session went and to book any further sessions. Sessions are usually held weekly, or fortnightly at a mutually agreed time and day, you are not tied to any number of sessions, you come as long as you want to, there will be regular review sessions throughout your time in therapy, this helps to see evaluate on how far along the process you are at or where you are at in therapy. We understand however that there may be financial constraints on how long you are able to come for counselling or psychotherapy.  If this is the case you & we can discuss whether this is an appropriate option in your consultation.

Your confidentiality is especially important to us as well as is the counselling relationship. Everything that is discussed with your Counsellor in the counselling session is kept in the strictest confidence.

Your Counsellor/Therapist is bound by the Code of Ethics set out by the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and I will adhere to their guidelines. Notes would be taken in the session. It is of huge importance to put you at ease during you time in therapy.

Don't just take our word for it......

"We couldn't talk to each other, it felt like the respect had gone from both of us, having children and life stresses really impacted us, therapy gave us a sense of who we were and stand up and listen. "

Do I have to come the same time each week?

In in short, we a are a fully flexible service we've modernised the old standard practice of  the same time each week as it just wasn't working for most people, however you can also book in advance if your needs are a little less flexible. How long will therapy last?

With therapy, there usually is no set length of treatment. Therapy can last anywhere from a few sessions to several months or even years. It all depends on what you want and need. Some people come to therapy with a very specific problem they need to solve and might find that say a few sessions is sufficient. Other people come to therapy with more complicated issues they are grappling with and may feel they need a few months or years to understand and resolve their issues. Other people come with long-standing problems or difficult feelings and may benefit from longer-term therapy. The length of treatment may also vary depending on the type of therapy in which you are engaging with.

Regardless of why you are seeking therapy or the type of therapy you are doing, it is important to remember that, ultimately, it is your decision as to when you stop therapy. It’s important to remember that you might come with a particular problem but during therapy a whole host of things can come up  that might impact this time. Your therapist will review with you every now and again to see how you’re doing within therapy and guide you through this process.
